How to View Your Bank Statement Online
The financial tales your statement tells can help you manage expenses, plan a budget and make smarter spending and saving choices. But deciphering a bank statement can be difficult, especially for people who may not have a computer, smartphone or reliable Internet access. For these people, paper statements are the only way to review their accounts. But even for digital natives, it can make sense to go paperless, as a way to save on postage, reduce the risk of mail fraud, and do their part to protect the environment.
Depending on the issuer, your statement will show different types of information but typically includes the following:
Account summary: This section shows you your beginning balance and ending balance in your account for the billing cycle. It also provides an itemized list of your deposits and withdrawals, letting you keep tabs on your spending habits. You’ll see statement credits (like reward redemptions and refunds), payments, interest earned, and fees paid during the period. This will help you determine your credit utilization, or how much of your available credit you’re using.
You’ll find your statement online in the same place where your other documents are — in the “Statements” or “Statements and Tax Forms” sections of the Member Access website, depending on your product. You’ll be notified via email when your statement is ready to view and you can choose to download a PDF for a physical copy, if you like.
